GTBank is African bank of the year again!

Guaranty Trust Bank (GTBank) Plc has been adjudged by African Banker Magazine as the 2014 African Bank of the Year .

A statement by the bank said the award was given at the sidelines of the just-concluded African Development Bank (AFDB) Annual General meeting in Kigali, Rwanda.

Managing Director, GTBank Kenya, Mr Kunle Sonola, received the award on behalf of GTBank, saying that the bank was honoured to win the award.

“The award is a testament to the hard work and commitment of the board, management and staff of the Bank,” NAN quoted Sonola as saying.

“It is also a challenge and a call to do more to project the global relevance of the African banking industry.”

He commended the bank’s customers for their continued trust and support, assuring them that the bank would continue to strive to deliver beyond stakeholders’ expectations at all times.

“GTBank has consistently played a leading role in Africa’s banking industry,” he added.

“We are one of the best-run financial institutions across subsidiary countries, and a role model within the financial service industry.”

The African Banker Awards is one of the biggest annual events recognising and celebrating the achievements of the financial services industry in Africa.

The award recognises the contributions of individuals and financial institutions to the development and growth of Africa’s banking industry and changing perceptions of the continent’s domestic and international markets.

“The award is memorable because of the transformation in the banking industry since the launch of the awards. African banks now finance and secure international deals; this is a step forward and unimaginable a decade back,” Publisher of African Banker Magazine, Mr Omar Ben Yedder, said of the impact of the award.

“Since we launched the awards, we have witnessed the transformation of an industry. There is no room for complacency, because there is much room for growth and development to achieve the transformation we all desire and work towards.”
