Guber polls: Buni, Inuwa Yahaya re-elected in Yobe, Gombe

Mai Mala Buni and Inuwa Yahaya have been re-elected as governors of Yobe and Gombe, respectively.

Reading the result at the INEC collation centre on Sunday, Umaru Pate, INEC returning officer for Yobe state, announced Buni of the All Progressives Congress (APC) as the winner of the governorship election with 317,113 votes.

Sherif Abdullahi of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) came second with 124,259 votes.

“That Buni Mai Mala of APC, having satisfied the requirements of the law, is hereby declared the winner of the election and returned elected,” Pate said.

Pate added that Garba Umar of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) came third with 14,246 votes, while Arabi Mohammed of the Action Alliance (AA) polled 3,260 votes.

Meanwhile, in Gombe, Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya of the APC was declared the winner of the governorship election.

Maimuna Waziri, INEC returning officer for Gombe, announced that Yahaya secured 342,821 votes while Jibrin Barde of the PDP came second with 233,131 votes.

Khamisu Mailantarki of the NNPP came a distant third with 19,861 votes, while Keftin Amuga of the Labour Party (LP) polled 1,753 votes.

Yahaya won in nine out of the 11 LGAs of the state.
