Guests lament absence of water, light at Obudu cattle ranch

Guests at the Obudu Mountain Resort, a tourist attraction in Cross River, have lamented the lack of amenities at the vacation spot.

Peter Ogbudu, a comedian also known as Ghana Must Go, who appeared to be one of the guests at the ranch, posted a video on his Facebook account on Saturday, faulting the resort’s poor services.

According to Ogbudu, he and other guests, who had been at the ranch, had no access to water and light since their arrival on Friday.

“I came to Obudu yesterday — we’re on top of the cattle ranch — all the way from Abuja, after like nine hours drive. As I talk to you since we got here, there’s been no light or water, I haven’t had my bath,” said the comedian who spoke in pidgin English.

“It’s 8 am the next day and I came to talk to the reception but there’s nobody here,” Ogbudu said while gesturing to a vacant reception area.

“The almighty Obudu Cattle ranch, a man’s dreams, guests have been complaining. Donald Duke’s dreams that attracted Nigerians and people all over the world, there’s no water or light and some of the staff said they’ve not been paid for three years.”

In the background, some people who appeared to be guests can be heard groaning and muttering indecipherable frustrated sounds.

“If Donald Duke comes here, he’ll cry. Ben Ayade, professor, how will you make people think education is a scam? It’s a pity. I haven’t even been able to shave for the event I was invited to.”

The comedian also said there were refugees who were camping at the once famous resort, on account of being ejected out of their houses by Ayade, former governor of the state.

Ayade had demolished their homes to build them new houses which would be up to standard but had failed to keep his promise to date, Ogbudu quoted the refugees as saying.

THE POOR STATE OF OBUDU CATTLE RANCH

Obudu cattle ranch was developed in 1951 as a tourist attraction. The ranch offers services such as cable car, canopy walks and several other side attractions, and prides itself as one of Nigeria’s top vacation destinations.

However, Donald Duke, former governor of Cross River, had bemoaned the present state of the ranch, saying that a “stranger” destroyed the tourist site.

Nigerians have also taken to social media to share their ordeals after visiting the now deteriorated site, with many lamenting constant poor power supply and catering services.
