Gunmen abduct 19-year-old girl in Ondo, demand N10m ransom

The police command in Ondo says some gunmen have abducted Adetutu Okinbaloye, a 19-year-old girl, in Imoru community, Ose LGA of the state.

NAN reports that Olufumilayo Odunlami-Omisanya, the command spokesman, confirmed the incident to journalists on Tuesday in Akure.

He said three people were attacked in the victim’s home but while two were able to escape, Adetutu was abducted.

“The DPO confirmed that the monarch of the town called to inform him while at the collation centre on Saturday, that three people were attacked in their home by gunmen,” Odunlami-Omisanya said.

“While two of them escaped, the third person was whisked away.”

A source from the community said seven armed men broke into the Adetutu’s home and took her away after injuring her aunt.

He said the abductors had contacted the family and demanded N10 million ransom.

The police and Amotekun corps, a local security group, are on the trail of the kidnappers.

Ondo has been experiencing increased attacks by gunmen in the past few months.

In December 2022, TheCable reported that Clement Olukotun, a traditional ruler of Oso Ajowa-Akoko, Akoko north-west LGA of Ondo, was abducted by gunmen.

Days prior, gunmen had killed two security guards in separate attacks in Ikare Akoko, Akoko north-east LGA of the state.

Also, in September 2022, at least 11 travellers were reportedly abducted on the Benin-Owo expressway in Ifon, headquarters of Ose LGA in the state.
