Gunmen abduct two pastors in Adamawa

Gunmen have kidnapped two pastors of Ekklesiyar Yan’uwa a Nigeria (EYN) in Adamawa state.

The pastors are James T. Kwayang and Ishaku D. Chiwar.

TheCable understands that the clerics were kidnapped on Sunday evening at Mbila-Malibu, Fufore LGA of Adamawa.

They are resident pastors in the local council church in Mbila-Malibu.

Suleiman Nguroje, Adamawa police spokesperson, who confirmed the incident in a statement on Monday, said the command has deployed operatives to rescue the pastors.

“The incident occurred at Billa Malabu in the Fufore local government area, where the kidnappers targeted the house of the victims situated at Hayin Gada, Billa village, Malabu district, Fufore local government area, and kidnapped them,” the statement reads.

“The kidnappers, who were armed with offensive weapons, invaded the victims’ houses around 2:00 am and whisked them away.

“On the strength of that, the commissioner of police, CP Dankombo Morris, deployed the command’s operational and manpower assets to give a hot chase to the kidnappers, rescue the victims, and apprehend the perpetrators.

“The progressive efforts of the command will definitely bring the perpetrators and other persons involved to justice, emphasising  the command’s commitment to safeguarding lives and resisting all forms of violent crime in the state.”

Daniel Mbaya, EYN president, urged security operatives to take immediate action to ensure the safe release of the pastors.

Mbaya asked Nigerians to join the church to pray for the safe release of the abducted pastors.

This is not the first time an EYN pastor will be kidnapped.

In December 2020, Bulus Yakura, an EYN pastor, was kidnapped by Boko Haram terrorists in Borno state.

Yakura was kidnapped after the insurgents attacked Pemi village in Chibok. Seven people died in the attack.

A video showing Yakura pleading with the federal government and the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) to save him had circulated on social media.

The pastor was released in March 2021.
