Gunmen attacked the convoy of Bernard Odo, the Ebonyi governorship candidate of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), on Thursday night while returning from a rally.
Charles Oru, the media aide to the governorship candidate, shared details of the incident on Friday.
He said the gunmen intercepted Odo’s convoy along the Enugu-Abakaliki road and began shooting sporadically.
TheCable understands that the incident has caused tension in the area and reduced commercial activities.

Oru said the Ebonyi APGA guber candidate escaped the incident unhurt as he hid in a Sienna vehicle.
“On sighting his entourage, the gunmen opened fire and shot at the driver of the Sienna conveying the governorship candidate,” Oru said.
“They missed their target because the governorship candidate disguised in a Sienna rather than his official car.”

Chris Anyanwu, the Ebonyi police spokesperson, did not respond to calls or messages when contacted to comment on the incident.
The development comes days after three police officers were killed by gunmen at the border checkpoint along Enugu/Abakaliki expressway.
The gunmen, who operated in a Sienna bus, opened fire at the checkpoint, injuring one officer in the leg and killing three.
