Gunmen attack LG chair in Kogi, abduct aides

Gunmen have attacked the home of Zacchaeus Michael, caretaker chairman of Kabba-Bunu LGA of Kogi.

Williams Ovye-Aya, Kogi police spokesperson, said the incident occurred on Friday.

The police spokesperson said the chairman managed to escape, adding that the hoodlums abducted Michael’s aides.

“On Friday, they went for a meeting and while returning, they were attacked by hoodlums that emerged from the bush around Kabba,” Ovye-Aya told TheCable.

“I received the information around 11pm but the incident occurred around past 5 in the evening. It happened around one bush in Kaku before Kogi State University in Kabba.

“Only his aides were abducted. The chairman managed to escape during the attack. He is home now.”

The police spokesperson added that Betrand Onuoha, commissioner of police in Kogi, has deployed a tactical team, comprising military and DSS personnel, for a search-and-rescue mission.

He said the team is also collaborating with the vigilantes in the region, adding that investigation is ongoing.

There has been an uptick in kidnapping for ransom across Nigeria in recent times.
