Gunmen attack quarry workers, kill police officer in Edo

The Edo police command says gunmen have killed an officer during an attack on quarry workers in the Ihivbe-Ogben area of the state.

Moses Yamu, the police spokesperson in Edo, confirmed the incident to journalists on Sunday.

The slain officer was reportedly assigned to the quarry located in Owan east LGA of the state.

Yamu said the gunmen ambushed the quarry workers on Thursday evening as they were heading to their base camp.

He added that the assailants also injured an expatriate and another police officer.

The police spokesperson said an investigation into the incident is ongoing.

“The injured expatriate and the police officer are receiving treatment in an undisclosed hospital,” NAN quoted him as saying.

“The police, in collaboration with the military, are on the trail of the suspects.”
