Gunmen invade Anambra communities, ‘kill four’

Four persons have been reportedly killed following attacks by gunmen on communities in Anambra state.

The incidents were said to have occurred in the wee hours of Monday in Nnewi south and Ekwusigo LGAs of the state.

Two brothers were said to be among those killed in an attack which occurred in Nnewi south LGA of the state. 

A video shared on social media platforms shows a man lying in a pool of his blood on a deserted road, while a voice on the background narrated the events that occurred in the area.

According to Punch, two of the victims were killed in Ekwusigo LGA of the state.

However, when contacted, Tochukwu Ikenga, police public relations officer in Anambra, said he is not aware of the attacks.

“I don’t have such a report before me,” he told TheCable.

In recent months, residents, security personnel, public infrastructure, and especially police stations have been targeted by gunmen.

Meanwhile, the latest incident comes days after gunmen reportedly opened fire on a pub in Osumenyi community, Nnewi south LGA of the state, killing five persons.

Days before, some members of the Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria (MACBAN) in Ogbaru LGA were declared missing.

But Arinzechukwu Awogu, chairman of Ogbaru LGA, said there was a misunderstanding between farmers and herders in the community, which made them flee the area.
