Gunmen invade palace of Olubadan during installation of local chiefs

Some gunmen invaded the palace of Saliu Adetunji, the Olubadan of Ibadan land, on Monday morning, while the monarch was installing some “mogajis and baales”.

Mogaji and baale are traditional titles in Yoruba land.

The attackers rained bullets on the vehicle where Sharafadeen Alli, former secretary to the government of the state, was.

Alli, a chieftain of Labour Party, is believed to be the prime target of the attack.

The incident sparked off tension as many fled in different directions.

A source told TheCable that the immediately the attackers arrived at the palace, they fired shots into the air before aiming at their target.

Dignitaries were already seated in the palace when the intruders struck. Although no life was lost, some people sustained injuries.

Security agents later came to the scene of the attack but the suspects had fled.

Adekunle Ajisebutu, spokesman of the state police command, refused to answer his call as it rang out repeatedly.

He had not responded to a text message sent as of the time this report was filed.
