Gunmen ‘kidnap 22 residents, injure four’ in attack on Kaduna town

Gunmen have reportedly abducted 22 persons in an attack on Idon town in Kajuru LGA, Kaduna state.

The gunmen, who were said to have also injured four residents during the attack, reportedly invaded the town located along the Kaduna-Kachia road on Wednesday. 

Sources told TheCable that the gunmen were many, adding that they went from house to house while shooting sporadically. 

Bala Jonathan, a councillor representing the area, confirmed the incident and named the 22 persons that were abducted.

He listed some of the victims as Justina Joseph, Mary Joseph, Rejoice Joseph, Stephen Joseph, Samson Ladan, Christiana David, Boniface David, Helen Aminu, Mirabel Aminu, Precious Philemon, Nelson Philemon and Christian Philemon.

Others were identified as Yosi Gabriel, Stephen Clement, Jinkai Musa, Derrick Obadiah, Daniel David, Paul David, Istifanus Peter, Miracle Matthew, Jesse Charles and Favour Daniel.

He gave the names of the four injured persons as David Maigaya, Micah Musa, Josephine Matthew and Marshall Musa.

At the time of filing this report, Mohammed Jalige, spokesman of the Kaduna police command, was not available for comment on the development.

The Wednesday incident is the latest in recent attacks on communities across Kaduna.

On January 12, operatives of the special forces team of the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) rescued 26 persons kidnapped along the Birnin Gwari-Kaduna road.

Five days later, the police also reported the rescue of 16 persons kidnapped along the Birnin Gwari road in the state.
