Five students of the Federal University Dutsinma (FUDMA), in Katsina state, have been abducted by gunmen

The Katsina police command has confirmed the incident.

Abubakar Aliyu, police public relations officer in the state, said the gunmen invaded a “residence of the students” behind Mariamoh Ajiri Memorial School.

Aliyu said the incident occurred at about 2 am on Wednesday.

He said the police have arrested one person suspected of disclosing information to the gunmen.

Aliyu added that efforts to rescue the victims unhurt are ongoing.

Habibu Aminu, spokesperson of the university, told TheCable that the students who were kidnapped reside outside campus.

Aminu added that the school is yet to ascertain the identities of the students.

The incident comes just days after bandits abducted over 20 students of the Federal University of Gusau in Zamfara state. Some of the students have been rescued.
