The Katsina state police command says gunmen have killed 21 persons in an attack on Baure village, Safana LGA of the state.
A statement on Friday by Abubakar Aliyu, the command’s spokesperson, said the gunmen targeted a joint team of Katsina State Community Watch Corps (KSCWC) and vigilante members.
Aliyu noted that the victims were ambushed while returning from a condolence visit on Tuesday.
“The incident occurred at about 4:30 p.m., prompting a swift response from police operatives attached to Safana Divisional Headquarters, who rushed to the scene and restored normalcy,” he said.

“Sadly, 21 persons were fatally shot as a result of the attack.”
He said efforts were underway to apprehend those responsible for the attack.
Aliyu added that updates would be provided as investigations progress.

In June 2024, 26 persons were killed in the Gidan Bofa and Dan Nakwabo communities in Kankara LGA of Katsina.
The assailants were said to have killed 15 people in Gidan Boka village and another five in the Dan Nakwabo community.
The police said the bandits also killed four officers — three inspectors and one corporal—as well as two members of the KSCWC in the ambush.
