Gunmen ‘kill four, abduct several residents’ in Zamfara

Gunmen have reportedly attacked some communities in Gusau and Bukuyyum local government areas of Zamfara state.

The multiple attacks, which resulted in the abduction of many residents, lasted from Sunday night to the early hours of Monday.

According to Zagazola Makama , a counter-insurgency publication focused on the Lake Chad region, the bandits kidnapped six women at Shemori village on Sunday.

In the early hours of Monday, another group of bandits reportedly killed two residents and abducted many people at Kairu community in Zugu district.

The publication said bandits also attacked Mada town of Gusau LGA and set the house of one Aliyu Usman ablaze.

Usman’s two children, who are between the ages of two and five, died in the burning home.

The bandits also kidnapped Usman’s wife and a one-year-old neighbour’s baby during the attack.

Yazid Abubakar, the Zamfara police command spokesperson, told TheCable that he was yet to be apprised of the incident.

‘KADUNA VILLAGE HEAD FOUND DEAD’

In yet another incident, Maitala Ariga Makama, the village head of Dutsan Gaya in Kajuru LGA of Kaduna, has been found dead.

His lifeless body was found on Sunday, hours after he was reportedly kidnapped by a vigilante group.

The Kaduna police command told Zagazola Makama that his body was discovered on the outskirts of Sabon Garin Rimau in Kajuru LGA.

The police have convened an emergency meeting with community and youth leaders from Dutsan Gaya and neighbouring villages to appeal for calm.

A senior military officer told the publication that an investigation has commenced to ascertain those responsible for the murder with a view to apprehending them.
