Gunmen kill MACBAN chairman in Katsina

Suspected bandits have killed Surajo Rufa’i, the acting chairman of the Katsina state chapter of the Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria (MACBAN).

NAN reports that the assailants killed two other persons during the attack on Saturday night at the Mai Rana community in the Kusada LGA of Katsina.

Gunmen also abducted the two wives of the late MACBAN acting chairman and his daughter, an undergraduate.

Abubakar Aliyu, the police spokesperson in Katsina, who confirmed the incident, said operatives responded swiftly to a distress call and engaged the gunmen in a shootout.

Aliyu said the gunmen were forced to flee, leaving one of their operational vehicles and one of the abducted wives of the late Rufa’i behind.

The police spokesperson said efforts are ongoing to rescue the remaining victims and arrest the gunmen.

He urged members of the public to assist the police with any credible information on the whereabouts of the fleeing criminals.
