Gunmen kill policeman in Lafia

The Nasarawa state police command has announced the death of an officer attached to Ibrahim Tarfa, the assistant commissioner of police (ACP) in charge of criminal investigation department (CID) in the state.

Ismaila Numan, the police spokesman in Nasarawa confirmed the incident to reporters in Lafia, capital of the state on Thursday, saying the deceased died from bullet wound he sustained during a gun battle between the attackers and the police.

He said the gunmen, suspected to be assassins, had access to the ACP’s residence along Shendam road, Lafia, after scaling the fence at about 2:00am on Wednesday.

He said immediately they stormed the compound, they shot dead the officer.

He, however, said that Tarfa was responding to treatment in an undisclosed hospital.
