Gunmen kill two security guards in Ondo town

Gunmen have killed two security guards in separate attacks in Ikare Akoko, Akoko north-east LGA of Ondo state.

The guards were said to have been killed by gunmen during attacks on the Mimiko market and NASFAT school, respectively, on Saturday.

Funmilayo Odunlami, Ondo police spokesperson, confirmed the incident to TheCable.

She said investigation into the incident has commenced.

“There was a call that informed the police that two people were killed. It’s actually in two different places, but the two people were actually security guards,” Odunlami said.

“Investigation has started, so that we can actually know what really happened.”

In recent months, there has been a series of attacks by gunmen in the state.

On July 28, TheCable reported that gunmen attacked Craneburg Construction Company around 9:45pm in Owo LGA, Ondo state, leaving two workers injured.

Meanwhile, in the early hours of July 25, gunmen invaded the Okuta Elerinla police station in Akure, the Ondo capital, and killed a police officer identified as Temenu Boluwaji.

The police officer was killed when he was hit by a stray bullet during a shootout with the gunmen.

Also, in June, the St. Francis Catholic Church in Owo LGA of Ondo state was attacked by gunmen, leaving many worshippers dead and several others injured.

The gunmen were said to have detonated explosives in the church after which they proceeded to fire several shots at the congregation.
