Gunners stun Villa with three goals in four minutes

It took only four minutes for Arsenal to snatch the three points as a period of quickfire goals saw them secure a comfortable victory over Aston Villa in Villa Park.

Mesut Ozil and Danny Welbeck both scored for Arsenal, as they got the better of the home side 3-0.

The Gunners were in control of the game right from the start and went ahead just past the half-hour mark.

Germany international, Ozil, who had come under strong criticisms of late, found the net after latching on to a through-ball from former Manchester United striker, Welbeck.

The favour was returned when on 34 minutes, Welbeck scored his first goal for Arsenal after turning in Ozil’s cross from close range.

It became 3-0 just a minute later when Aly Cissokho inadvertently turned the ball into his own net.

Sunderland are still without a win in the Premier League this season after they were held to a goalless draw at Burnley.

Both sides hit the post in the closing stages of a tense encounter at Turf Moor.

Burnley went into the game as the Premier League’s lowest scoring side, with one goal to their name so far this season. And, after a rather boring 90 minutes, it was easy to see why.

They had their chances, though, but were unable to make them count.

Swansea City slipped to their second defeat of their season as Wilfried Bony’s first-half red card proved key to Southampton’s victory.

Despite being the home team, Swansea were forced to sit back and soak up waves of Saints pressure especially in the second half and looked like they would eventually hold out for a hard-earned point.

Victor Wanyama had other ideas, though.

He struck with 10 minutes remaining to ensure Southampton recorded a third straight victory over Swansea.

Wanyama went past Ki Sung-Yueng to meet Graziano Pelle’s pass and slot the ball into the top corner.

Newcastle rallied from two goal down to share a 2-2 draw with Hull City at St James’ Park.

The Magpies appeared destined for a third defeat of the season when Nikica Jelavic broke the deadlock for Steve Bruce’s side early in the second half and Mohamed Diame scored his second league goal in as many matches since joining from West Ham United.

However, substitute Papiss Demba Cisse turned the tide for Alan Pardew’s side with two goals in the last 17 minutes.

The Senegal striker proved instrumental in the 69th minute, as he marked his return from a fractured kneecap.

Cisse reduced the deficit four minutes after coming on and then scored again three minutes from time to salvage a point and perhaps grant Pardew another week in the job.

Niko Kranjcar’s late free-kick denied Mark Hughes a winning return to Loftus Road as QPR drew 2-2 with Stoke City in Saturday’s early kick-off match.

Hughes was sacked after 10 months in charge of QPR in 2012, but looked to be on course for all three points on his first trip back to the west London club thanks to a goal early in the second half from Peter Crouch.

Crouch struck in the 51st minute after Steven Caulker had levelled Mame Biram Diouf’s early opener on the stroke of half-time.

However, Kranjcar rescued Harry Redknapp’s side from a fourth Premier League defeat of the season with a superb 25-yard free-kick two minutes from time.
