Guns recovered as police arrest three armed robbery suspects in Oyo

The Police command in Oyo says three suspects have been arrested for alleged armed robbery activities in parts of the state.

NAN reports that Adewale Osifeso, police spokesperson in the state, said the suspects included two siblings and a boyfriend who specialised in motorcycle theft.

While parading the suspects on Friday, Osifeso said they have been attacking commercial motorcycle operators in the Ibadan metropolis.

Osifeso said during the investigation, one of the suspects confessed that they attacked one Adebiyi in the Odo-Oba area on March 12 and snatched his motorcycle.

The suspect said they disguised as passengers to trick Adebiyi into an isolated area where they inflicted serious injuries on him.

The police spokesperson said the victim who was rescued and rushed to the hospital was later reported dead.

“The incident was reported at Idi-Aro division, Ibadan, and efforts are being made to fish out the hoodlums,” he said.

“On March 14 at about 6.00 a.m., the same set of armed robbers attacked another motorcyclist, one Taoheed Wahab, at another desolate location and equally dispossessed him of his Bajaj motorcycle at gunpoint.

“The incident was equally reported at the same police division and in the course of preliminary investigations, three of the armed robbers were arrested in connection with the crime.”

He said one of the suspects also confessed to being behind two incidents and two other robbery attacks in the Odo-Oba area on March 4.

Another suspect said he had snatched three motorcycles from January till date, while his gang has stolen several motorcycles.

The suspect said he used to work as a fashion designer, adding that his sister and her boyfriend usually accompany him to conduct armed robbery operations.

The police spokesperson said five motorcycles and two locally made guns were recovered from the suspects.

He added that three persons suspected to be the receivers of the stolen motorcycles have been arrested.
