Gunshots in Aso Rock: Why always Aisha?

BY AREMU LUKMAN UMOR

The profile of the avoidable disagreements between our ageless First Lady, Aisha Buhari, and President Muhammadu Buhari’s aides and families who are living inside the Aso Rock, will keep one wondering if Nigeria has never had a first lady. The late Stella Obasanjo, Turai Yar’Adua and Patience Jonathan were once in the Aso Rock as first ladies. Stella till she lost battle to the Hades stood behind Obasanjo and supported his presidency; Turai Yar’Adua was a powerful first lady, who played enviable roles in Yar’Adua’s administration; and Patience Jonathan, will always be remembered for her timely comic skits: “There is God o!”

Patience Jonathan, Turai Yar’Adua and the late Stella Obasanjo would have had issues with their husbands’ aides and the people who were and not their husbands’ families who lived with them in the Villa, and since they knew the pitiable state Nigeria was, they decided to let it slide. These women came online to defend the lapses in their husbands’ administrations. The timely appearance of Patience Jonathan on air whenever there were killings in the country, was  what made many Nigerians discern her laughable grammatical blunders. To quote one of her many grammatical blunders: “My husband and Sambo is a good people.

It’s not Aisha Buhari, If President Buhari’s aide, who lives with them in the Villa does not nauseate her today, his relative would nauseate her tomorrow. Fatima, daughter of Mamman Daura, President Muhammadu Buhari’s nephew, can’t forget Aisha in her life. Aisha had attacked and denied her access to her apartment in a trended video a few months ago. Though, Aisha later came on air to   delineate why she acted in such manner. Still, the issue wouldn’t have escalated if she considered her family as an exemplary family to all other Nigerian families. It was in this period she bashed Garba Sheu, President Muhammadu Buhari’s Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, on her Twitter page. “Garba Sheu has gone beyond his boundaries,” she said. The how he has gone beyond his boundaries, she listed didn’t exonerate Buhari’s administration but undermined it. I trust my country people, she was called the unprintable names she deserved anon.

The nudiustertian disagreement between Aisha Buhari and the Private Secretary to the President, Yusuf Sabiu, with Tunde as sobriquet, which led to gunshots in the Villa was the worst of all the reported activities in Aso Villa since Democracy returned to Nigeria in 1999. Aisha was reported to have marched to Yusuf Sabiu’s Aso residence when he returned from a Lagos trip and asked him to isolate himself for 14 days so as not to endanger other residents. It was gathered that the encounter birthed a hot argument between the duo. Sabiu insisted that he wasn’t the only one who went on a trip, and that she shouldn’t pick on him alone. When the argument was thriving beyond expectation, Aisha’s ADC, Usman Shugaba, in an attempt to apprehend Sabiu was reportedly fired gunshots. Luckily for Sabiu, he escaped the gunshots. Thanks to the Inspector General of Police, who later ordered the arrest of Usman Shugaba.

Shall we ask Aisha why she didn’t tell others who went on trips too to isolate themselves? If she had gone to other residents who went on a trip too, Yusuf Sabiu might not have given the excuse he gave. Fact that Aisha didn’t tell others who went on trip to isolate themselves but Sabiu, showed that the duo are not in good terms. If they were, she wouldn’t have gotten such response from Sabiu. Plus, the duo wouldn’t have any reason to prolong the issue. I expected the First Lady to manage the situation before it escalated to firing gunshots in our revered Aso Villa. Who ordered her ADC to fire gunshots in a situation of such?  If Sabiu didn’t run, would he gun him down? I must tell Mrs Buhari that she is not passing a good message to other housewives out there and Nigerian families, who are looking up to the first family. I doubt it if Mrs Buhari learned not to be washing her dirty linen in public from the ex-first ladies she invited to the Villa a few months ago. May I ask Aisha why always her?
