Police in Brazil have arrested a man who they claimed hacked into Neymar’s bank accounts and repeatedly stole small sums of money amounting to more than $40,000.

According to Reuters, the suspect worked at a bank where the Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) footballer and his father, who happens to be his business manager, had accounts.

Police, in a statement, said the suspect, who is 20-year-old, was apprehended on Wednesday.

Speaking on Brasil Urgente, a Brazilian TV show, Fabio Pinheiro Lopes, the police officer in charge of the case, explained how the alleged theft took place.

“What did this lad do?” Fabio asked. “He got the password of his office colleague and stole small amounts of money from famous people with high net worth.”

“These people didn’t notice. He made (a transfer) of 10,000 (reais) ($1,912.59), then another of 10,000, then 20,000, and then 50,0000 and the total came to 200,000.”

Fabio also disclosed that Neymar has been reimbursed by the bank.

“When they discovered they called the bank. The bank reimbursed the victim [Neymar Jr.] and investigated who was behind it,” he added.

Neymar has been in Brazil recuperating from a left ankle injury that has kept him out of action for two months.

He, however, returned to full training with PSG training on Thursday.
