The National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON) says it has refunded N4.48 billion to State Pilgrims’ Welfare Boards, the federal capital territory (FCT), and the armed forces.
In a statement on Thursday, Muhammad Musa, NAHCON’s head of public affairs, said the refunds are due to the inadequate Masha’ir electricity services provided by Saudi authorities during the 2023 hajj.
Musa added that N917.15 million was also refunded to 192 accredited tour companies for onward disbursement to their pilgrims, with outstanding payments to other companies to follow after reconciliation.
He noted that each pilgrim is entitled to a refund of N61,080 and should contact their state welfare boards, commissions, or tour operators to claim it.

The spokesperson urged intending pilgrims for the 2025 hajj to deposit their fares promptly with their state welfare boards to facilitate timely arrangements in line with Saudi Arabia guidelines.
He highlighted NAHCON’s commitment to transparency under the leadership of Abdullahi Saleh, its chairman.
“In the interest of due process, NAHCON calls upon the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC), and other security agencies to monitor the refund process,” the statement reads.
