Harvard, UI maintain spots as ‘best universities’

While Harvard University maintained its spot as the best university in the world, the University of Ibadan (UI) remained the best in Nigeria for year 2016 – holding the torch from 2015.

According to the survey by Times Higher Education (THE), Asian universities are becoming more prestigious, increasing from 10 to 18 universities in the Top 100.

In Africa, Cape Town University in South Africa remained the best university, while University of Ghana, Legon, was named the best in west Africa.

Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), Stanford University, Cambridge, and Oxford University followed Harvard closely at the second, third, fourth and fifth position respectively.

Over the past five years, countries other than the US and UK have struggled to make it to the Top 10 with little success.

The University of Tokyo in Japan is the only institution outside the US and UK to have come into the Ivy-10 league, hitting eighth in 2011 and 2012, and 9th in 2013.

In 2016, Tokyo ranked best in Asia and 12th in the world.

The US remains dominant in the Top 100 with the first three Universities and 40 others in the highly sought top 100 universities.

  1. Even the best in Nigeria, is nothing to write home about in respect to reaearch facilities. You cannot conduct 50% of ur PhD research within if you want to produce a good thesis. We are in trouble. God will help us.

  2. Your comment..The fact that no Nigeria Universities ranking among the first hundred does not mean our products from these Universities are not highly and excellent intelligent compare to those over rated Universities. I am proud of my alma mater, University Of Ibadan “First and Still The Best”.

  3. You want to know the true ranking.. Compare the students when subjected to the same postgraduate class and resources.. Have you ever wondered why with zero rating we go there for masters and dust all their graduates.. My Uni.. My Pride… UNIBADAN.. Still towering highest
