Chris Ngige, minister of labour, on Wednesday said, there is nothing wrong with doctors leaving Nigeria as the country has “more than enough” medical personnel.
Speaking during a Channels TV programme, the minister defended the doctors searching for green pastures elsewhere, saying “if you have surplus, you export.”
His statement has generated a lot of reactions. Below are some of the things people said on social media.

How Chris Ngige- one of the most respected governors in S.East Nigeria suddenly became a source of riducle in this govt has to be the single biggest mystery of governance!

There are about 70,000 registered Doctors in Nigeria. More than 35,000 of them are not practicing in Nigeria. They have left the country. This is from the minister of health himself.
We have an emergency situation in our hands and the utterances of Chris Ngige is an embarrassment

This is an UNWISE Talk. I pray PMB doesn’t retain this Minister. Chris Ngige obviously has lost touch with the society as a labour minister.- EMC https://t.co/4sViyVdFjH

Chris Ngige feels it's OK to have 1 doctor to 6000 people or even worse. You see why we are not moving forward as a nation?
UK is far more developed than us, they are importing doctors we that we are retrogressing are exporting doctors.— Dr Babatunde (@enodamade) April 24, 2019
… Chris Ngige: 5 Issues.
1. Is the labour minister- a medical doctor- ignorant of the stark realities in Nigeria's medical field?
2. Prof Adewole- the health minister- once advised medical doctors to take to farming & tailoring, is there more to this than meets the eye? pic.twitter.com/rWoa8GXGUd— RootsTv (@rootstvnigeria) April 24, 2019

Unfortunately, people like Chris Ngige, adebayo shittu, fashola, Audi Ogbe etc will make the next ministerial list. These people are fit as governor/commissioner but not a minister carrying the burden of a whole nation in their ministries.

So Chris Ngige fixed his lips to say that we have enough doctors in Nigeria, so those who wish to leave should do so? Whew chile, the absolute delusion

Does Chris Ngige know that the best doctors are the ones leaving this country?

See how Chris Ngige – a Labor Minister is answering questions on Brain Drain? I really feel ashamed for him.

Chris Ngige is actually helping the economy in the long run.
Think about it, how many of these politicians treat themselves in Nigeria?
When they go abroad the same Nigerian doctors will get paid to treat them and the money will be sent back to Nigeria. pic.twitter.com/wta6YBcCiO

I think some of these ministers enjoy their names being mentioned in the media. Maybe that way, it looks like they are working. Because honestly, I can't understand what Chris Ngige is talking about.
