Nasir el-Rufai, governor of Kaduna state, has congratulated Ibrahim Attahiru, the newly appointed chief of army staff, on his new position.
El-Rufai, who also congratulated other newly appointed service chiefs, said he believes Attahiru will take the Nigerian military to greater heights.
On Tuesday, the presidency announced the appointment of new service chiefs.
Lucky Irabor was appointed as the chief of defence staff; Ibrahim Attahiru as chief of army staff; Awwal Gambo as chief of naval staff, and Isiaka Amao as chief of air staff.

Attahiru was born in Doka, Kaduna north local government area, on August 10, 1966.
According to a statement issued on Friday by Samuel Aruwan, Kaduna commissioner for internal security and home affairs, el-Rufai described Attahiru as “a product of hard work, commitment, dedication and outstanding professionalism”.
“Going further, Governor El-Rufai stated his belief that under the leadership of Maj. Gen. Attahiru, the Nigerian Army would be taken to even greater levels of proficiency and responsiveness in the discharge of its constitutional duties,” the statement reads.

The Kaduna governor praised President Muhammadu Buhari for appointing Attahiru, adding that the state would organise a grand reception to welcome him to the state.
