‘He served with distinction’ — Fayemi pays tribute to Olunloyo

Victor Olunloyo

Kayode Fayemi, the former governor of Ekiti, has expressed deep sorrow over the passing of Victor Olunloyo, an ex-governor of Oyo.

Fayemi described the late politician as “a dedicated public servant who devoted himself to Nigeria”.

Olunloyo, who served as governor of the old Oyo state from October 1 to December 18, 1983, died a few days before his 90th birthday.

In a statement issued on Sunday in Abuja by his media office, Fayemi described the former governor’s death as the end of an era, adding that Nigerians will remember him for his principled leadership and selfless service.

“Dr. Victor Olunloyo was an accomplished man in every sense of the word — mathematician, engineer, administrator, and statesman. He brought his formidable intellect and uncommon vision to bear on every assignment he undertook,” the statement reads.

“He was not just a former governor, but a scholar, a visionary leader, and a patriot who served Nigeria with distinction.

“His tenure as governor of Oyo, though brief, was marked by progressive policies and a commitment to good governance.”

He extended his condolences to the Olunloyo family, the government and people of Oyo, noting that Nigeria has lost one of its finest.
