‘He utilises state resources effectively’ — Benue assembly passes vote of confidence on Alia

The Benue house of assembly has passed a vote of confidence on Hyacinth Alia, governor of the state.

The lawmakers, while moving the motion for the vote of confidence on Friday, commended the governor for initiating policies and programmes that have rekindled the confidence of Benue people in governance.

Simon Gabo, lawmaker representing Mata constituency, said the governor had within six months stabilised the payment of workers’ salaries and pension of retirees, and ensured the rehabilitation of the old assembly complex and completion of some road projects.

He said the ability of the governor to undertake all projects without borrowing funds shows he has “utilised the state resources effectively and transparently”.

Seconding the motion, Peter Ipusu, chief whip of the house, said the governor purchased quality vehicles for the use of lawmakers.

Ipusu said the governor has also prioritised the welfare of the lawmakers, adding that the speaker of the house also deserved a vote of confidence.

The chief whip said the speaker has effectively managed the house’s affairs within a short time.

Speaking after a voice vote, Aondona Dajoh, speaker of the house, said the action of the lawmakers would motivate the governor to perform better.

Dajoh commended the house for finding him and the governor worthy of their confidence vote.
