Flight operations have resumed at London’s Heathrow airport following a power outage that led to the shutdown of the facility on Friday.

The airport announced the resumption of services on X on Saturday.

“Flights have resumed at Heathrow, and we are open and fully operational. All terminals and all car parks are open across Heathrow,” the airport posted.

“Teams across the airport continue to do everything they can to support passengers impacted by yesterday’s outage at an off-airport power substation.

“Passengers travelling today should check with their airline for the latest information regarding their flight.”

Heathrow, the largest airport in London, is regarded as the world’s busiest international airport, handling about 1,300 landings and take-offs daily.

However, flight services were disrupted from Thursday night when a fire broke out at an off-site electrical substation, leading to a major power outage.

The incident resulted in flight delays and forced the airport to shut down all operations throughout Friday.

“We have no choice but to close Heathrow until 23:59 on 21 March 2025,” Heathrow Airport spokesperson had said.

“We know this will be disappointing for passengers and we want to reassure you that we are working as hard as possible to resolve the situation.

“Whilst fire crews are responding to the incident, we do not have clarity on when power may be reliably restored.”
