Granit Xhaka, former Arsenal captain, has pleaded with Nigerians to “stay calm” about Victor Boniface’s form for the Super Eagles.
Boniface has found it difficult to replicate his goal-scoring form for Bayer Leverkusen with the Nigerian national team.
Since making his debut in 2023, the striker is yet to score for the Super Eagles and his poor form in the team’s jersey has continuously attracted criticism on social media.
In a chat with OmaSports TV on Wednesday, Xhaka threw his full support behind his club teammate to soon get over his dry patch for the Super Eagles.

He said Boniface will be important for Nigeria in the future as the striker is currently important for Leverkusen.
“It is always difficult. For the national team, you do not have much time to adapt. You don’t have time to work about the tactical stuff — you’re not with the same coach every day and same players, but everyone wants to play for their country,” the Swiss midfielder said.
“He’s important for us [Leverkusen], and for sure, he’ll be important for Nigeria in the future, and I’ll say stay calm because he’s a great guy and a great footballer”.

Boniface is out for a couple of weeks with a thigh injury he picked up in Nigeria’s disappointing 2-1 home loss to Rwanda in mid-November.
He has scored seven goals for Leverkusen across all competitions this season.
