Different reactions have trailed the GoFundMe account set up to raise funds for Atiku Abubakar’s legal battle against the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate is challenging the outcome of the presidential election.
After Atiku filed a suit seeking the court to order the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) allow him access electoral materials, there were reports that an account had been set up to raise funds for the PDP candidate.
But Phrank Shaibu, one of Atiku’s media aides, dissociated the presidential candidate from the account, saying: “We are not in any way connected to it but we consider it as a purely private initiative of the promoters.”

The account has been taken down but before then, there were some social media reactions. Find some of them below:

I know that Atiku Abubakar is self sufficient, so I'm not donating to GoFundMe because of him. I'm donating because of my future. If we don't fight the shenanigans of APC and INEC, it will consume our years of labour for democracy.

Looks as if @segalink has caught the PEDS (Post Election Defeat Syndrome) virus .
We should quicky raise a GoFundMe for his treatment before it gets out of hand.
Doubt if he made enough money from @atiku , to survive him for three years before campaign kicks off for 2023 😂😂😂— Eguando (@teguando1) March 6, 2019
Lol. GoFundMe? For a billionaire? Am I mad?
— Female Lisandro⚽ 🇳🇬 (@anabelenahoro) March 7, 2019
Thank goodness Nigeria dodged this bullet called Atiku and his minions, just a week after Presidential election they’re so broke they’ve resorted to gofundme, imagine if they won the election, CBN would have started crying by now
— kennygee babe (@kennygee_70) March 6, 2019
Ladies and gentlemen, @atiku is so broke he needs the services of Segafraud to raise a GoFundMe account to "defend his stolen mandate"
These jokes don't write themselves, really pic.twitter.com/b6CrPJWScj

This Fraudulent Lilliputian midget, @segalink, is out to scam you people again.
A Gofundme link for Atiku???
Donate at your own risk but don't come here to rant when your eyes clear.
A word is enough. pic.twitter.com/f1PvdFiQuM

If you set a GoFundMe Account for Buhari with a 100k Target, it will be met in 2 hours. That’s for the record. Buhari supporters wants to give Buhari, not the other way round. All Atiku supporters want from him. 😩

Buhari really wasted our resources; material and Human Resources; he has ruined many intellectuals.
They’re angry that well meaning Nigerians are donating to Atiku’s legal fees at the tribunal via Gofundme .
This is a form of protest against the sham elections! #IStandWithAtiku— Somto Onuchukwu (@chosensomto) March 6, 2019
The fraudulent gofundme set up for Atiku by SegaFraud has been taken down.
We await the next trick from the #DubaiStrategy book.

Those opening a GoFundMe for @atiku are scammers, I once sent close 2 a million Naira for a campaign to one of those behind it, he chopped the money, cleaned mouth and I never heard a word about it again. I didn’t say anything because it’s not that serious, however, caveat emptor
— Mr. Aye Dee (@MrAyeDee) March 6, 2019
I’ve donated to the gofundme – not because Atiku needs it but because I am fully aware of the efforts behind it and because I need it to stay fired up over the next few months.
I’ll donate as often as I can.
I strongly urge you to do so also.https://t.co/2t0Yd8FPIm— 'Demola Olarewaju (@DemolaRewaju) March 6, 2019
Dear @Ikwerreman,
You can't be supporting Atiku by mouth only. There is a GoFundMe for his appeal in a creditable court. The stolen mandate must be retrieved!!
Contact Sega for details.
He is quite honest pic.twitter.com/LjZB4em9gW

Don't get carried away by that GoFundMe gimmick by @segalink. It's a fraud.
It's a strategy intended to make @atiku look the 'victim', as he and his goons undertake the failed attempts at discrediting the elections.
We know them.
