Hensard University, in Bayelsa state, has received approval from the National Universities Commission (NUC) to offer 16 new undergraduate programmes.
The newly approved academic offerings include degrees in such fields as medicine, law and engineering.
Abubakar M. Girei, the acting director of academic planning at the NUC, confirmed the approval in a letter obtained by TheCable.
The new programmes, Girei said, will commence in the 2024/2025 academic session.

Hensard University currently offers 59 programmes across 12 faculties, covering disciplines such as Agriculture, Business, Education, Engineering, Medicine, and Sciences.
The latest nod follows an earlier NUC approval granted on January 22 for 13 full-time undergraduate programmes, including Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm.D.), Law (LL.B.), and various education-related courses.
Speaking on the approvals, Dileep Kumar, the university’s vice-chancellor, acknowledged efforts on quality assurance by Seriake Dickson, the university’s chancellor.

He assured prospective students that Hensard University remains dedicated to providing a world-class educational experience.
The university, Kumar said, aims to impart practical skills, entrepreneurship, and innovation, while preparing students for successful careers and lifelong learning.
