Herdsmen killing my people, laments Kogi monarch

Matthew Obasa, Oba of Ayede Oke-Agi Amuro in Mopamuro local government area of Kogi state, has called on the government to assist in stopping the alleged killings of farmers in Amuro communities by herdsmen.

Obasa said this in an interview with NAN in Lokoja, the state capital, on Saturday.

He alleged that herdsmen murdered one Paul Oluwole (a.k.a Serebe), an ex-councillor of Mopamuro, on his way to farm on Thursday.

Obasa said two herdsmen allegedly shot the councillor at close range.

Describing the incident as unfortunate and pathetic, the traditional ruler said that was not the first time that the herdsmen would kill and maim innocent people in the town and neighbouring communities.

“Another woman died on Wednesday due to the severe injuries she sustained from herdsmen attack about a week ago,” he said.

“The woman, who was returning home from farm with her little baby on her back, was raped and had her hands and breast cut off.

“Our lives and the entire community are not safe from the hand of these evil men as they go about with guns and dangerous weapons.

“My people can no longer go about their farming activities because of the fear of being attacked by these deadly herdsmen.

“We are calling on government and all security agencies to come to our rescue in Mopamuro as the situation has already gone out of hand.”

He urged the inspector-general of police and commissioner of police in Kogi to ensure that the perpetrators of the heinous acts were brought to justice.

  1. Thanks to SW APC governors and members of the Redeemed church for placing the country under the Fulani. It is sad and interesting not one Fulani herdsman has been arrested in any part of the country. And Buhari has been very silent on this crisis
