Javier Hernandez scored a late winner as Real Madrid edged past 10-man Atletico Madrid 1-0 to secure their place in the UEFA Champions League semi-finals.
The on-loan striker from Manchester United tapped in from close range as the hosts constantly pressed for the all-important winner, after Diego Simeone’s men had Arda Turan sent off for a second yellow card with 13 minutes remaining.
The goal was Hernandez’s first UCL goal in 895 days, going back to his time with United in the 2012-13 competition.
A closely fought game of few chances came to life in the 76th minute when Turan was sent off after receiving his second booking of the match.

Real Madrid won the tie 1-0 on aggregate.
In the other quarter-final game, Juventus secured their passage to the semi-finals after playing out a 0-0 draw against Monaco at the Stade Louis II giving them a 1-0 win on aggregate.
