Atedo Peterside, the founder of Stanbic IBTC Holdings Plc, announced on Tuesday that he would boycott a consultative forum being organised by the Central Bank of Nigeria as a way of protesting the dethronement of Muhammadu Sanusi II as emir of Kano.
Sanusi’s dethronement was announced by the Kano state government on Monday and Aminu Ado Bayero was announced as his successor.
In his letter, Peterside said actions like Sanusi’s eventual banishment from Kano have “no place in a democratic dispensation” as they were typical to colonial and military governments.
Sanusi and Peterside are both old boys of King’s College, Lagos.

Peterside’s action generated opposite reactions on social media, most of them in his favour.
Ah ah, but why though? The economy is in crisis, I’m very sure the CBN needs ideas to stabilize the economy. I don’t think a boycott is going to alter what has already been done, but your presence at the meeting can actually help the country as a whole. Try reconsider.

There are very few principled people like Atedo Peterside, both in the public and private sectors. Ironically, this position he has taken is something SLS may never have done it the tables were turned. https://t.co/BfJaD8uyRF

This is how you take a stand. Rascally politicians can not be allowed to pepertually ride roughshod over us, if the majority of Nigerians do not because of a lack of proper education have the capacity to demand for good governance, at least people like you do. Nicely done, Sir.

@AtedoPeterside is exhibiting Elitism On Steroids. Placing Class interest Above National Interest. His CBN invite has Absolutely Nothing to do with Kano palace politics. So..rather than contribute to national economic policy discussions,Peterside demurred for an unrelated reason..

Atedo Peterside and Nasir el-Rufai are doing God's work with their unique ways of protesting a barbaric act hidden behind the mask of tradition and politics. Protest culture is important in a society that has decided to go to the dogs. #Nigeria #SLS #AllProtestsMatter

This is the same question that I have asked? How can the Governor of a State exile a Nigerian to another state which he does not govern? How can a Governor abridge the full cirizenship rights of a Nigerian who has not been convicted by any court of law of any offense? How?

Thumbs up to @AtedoPeterside for rejecting the @cbn roundtable meeting as a way of expressing his grievances over the dethronement saga. Political pretense can never help matters in this country. Let's speak truth to power for once.

The message wasn’t for the CBN, you know who this message was for. The Yoruba’s will say “kii aditi ba le gboran, la sen soro leti omo e (the reason why the child of the deaf is been spoken to, is so that the deaf parent can understand)…..

Particularly happy that @AtedoPeterside did this for SLS, despite both publicly sharing different positions on Sanusi's $20bn alarm in 2014. Injustice to one is injustice to all, merit-based position. Respect, Mr. Peterside.

You are an inspiration….Younger Nigerians like us will say "na man you be"….please do those of us that may never have the chance to meet you a favour; please write an autobiography.

That's the kind of reaction expected of all well meaning Nigerians when our evil leaders exhibit their evil nature.

Dear Atedo Peterside, my respect for you just doubled!

This has been happening to common Nigerians since. If you had cried for others, it may not have happened to your friend Sanusi

Kudos! You’re indeed a man of principle! There comes a time when a real man must take a stand! You’re a trailblazer – I hope other will follow suit!
