Antonio Conte, Napoli’s manager, says Victor Osimhen remains a player of the club.

Conte spoke in a press conference on Saturday amid rumours about the future of the Nigerian striker.

In June, the Italian manager said there were “previous agreements” between Napoli and Osimhen that the club would sell the player should any suitor meet his buyout clause.

“Having said that, I know what the situation is regarding Osimhen. I know that there are agreements, that it is a situation different from all the others. I can only assist,” Conte had said.

“He is a player of the highest level, exceptional, but I cannot enter into any discussion because it is part of previous agreements which have been clearly stated to me.”

However, in his latest update on the situation, Conte said Osimhen is a “Napoli player today” and “there are no changes”.

The manager added that he spoke with the 25-year-old and “he needs to work hard, even if we’ve an agreement”.

“I spoke to Victor, and there are no changes on his situation. He’s a top player,” the Italian said.

“He’s Napoli player today so he needs to work hard, even if we’ve an agreement [for his potential exit] and still we don’t know the outcome of this story.”

There are reports that a handful of top European clubs are waiting on the sideline to cash in on Osimhen before the transfer window closes.

Arsenal, PSG and Chelsea have all been linked to the Super Eagles player in recent months.
