‘Highly regretted’ — Anambra to discipline task force official over manhandling of Odumeje

Chukwuma Soludo, Anambra governor, has ordered disciplinary action against a task force official who manhandled Chukwuemeka Ohanaemere, a cleric otherwise known as Odumeje.

TheCable had reported how, according to viral footage on social media, a task force official assaulted Odumeje for allegedly attempting to stop a demolition exercise affecting his church.

In a statement on Friday, Soludo condemned the assault, and promised that there won’t be a reoccurrence.

“This is highly regretted, and would never happen again,” he said.

“I have instructed that the task force personnel involved in the manhandling of Prophet Chukwuemeka Ohanaemere (Odumeje) be treated in accordance with the rules of public conduct which he roundly failed to uphold.

“On this journey, imperfect steps will be taken, emotions will run wild and opinions will grow thick. What is pertinent to note is that we shall remain undaunted, correct our imperfections, strive to put our emotions in check and aggregate opinions that are in the interest of our overall good.

“We will continue to work to actualise the mandate you have given to us. Nothing short of the best outcomes is guaranteed. On behalf of the government and good people of Anambra State, I condemn the assault, and further ask for your continued support in the fight to restore the dignity of Onitsha, and indeed the totality of our Homeland.”

On Thursday, the Anambra government demolished the security post in front of Odumeje’s church, the Mountain of Holy Ghost Intervention and Deliverance Ministry.

The building was said to have been marked by the Anambra state physical planning board (ANSPPB) over “obstruction and blockage of free flow of water at the Nwangele-Bida drainage”.

The exercise, which is being carried out by a joint government task force, commenced from Bida road by Modebe avenue, Fegge, Onitsha.

Other buildings, shops and perimeter fences were also affected.

According to the Anambra government, the structures were marked since April 2022 and all developers and building owners were served notice to remove such illegal structures.
