Kayode Fayemi, former governor of Ekiti state, has expressed sadness over the death of Kenneth Gbagi, ex-minister of state for education.
Gbagi died on Saturday at the age of 62.
In a statement posted on Facebook, Emuoboh, son of Gbagi, announced the death of his father on behalf of the family.
“It is with profound sadness but gratitude to God, that we announce the passing of our beloved father, grandfather, husband, and brother,” the statement reads.

In a statement on Monday by his media office, Fayemi described Gbagi’s death as profoundly sad and shocking, adding that the nation has lost a dedicated public servant and patriot.
He said the former minister was a dedicated politician who was influential in the politics of Delta state and leveraged that influence to improve the lives of his people.
He said Gbagi was also a dear friend whose exemplary life will continue to inspire many.

“Gbagi’s contributions to the education sector in Nigeria are immense and enduring,” the statement reads.
“As Minister of State for Education, he played a key role in the establishment of six new federal universities across the country, including the Federal University of Oye-Ekiti, Ekiti State, a feat that significantly expanded access to quality tertiary education for our teeming youth.
“I extend my deepest sympathies to the Gbagi family, his friends and associates, the people and the government of Delta State in this trying time.
“We have lost a great patriot, but his legacy will continue to inspire us all. May his soul rest in the bosom of the lord.”
