‘Hoodlums’ kill customs officer in Jigawa, cart away rifles

A customs officer was killed while another was injured in an attack by suspected hoodlums in Ringim local government area of Jigawa state.

Abdu Jinjiri, spokesman of the Jigawa police command, said the suspected hoodlums attacked the officers while on routine patrol at Kyarama village on Sunday.

Jinjiri added that the service rifles of the officers were also carted away.

“On October 25, the police in Ringim LGA, received a report that some customs officers while on patrol at Kyarama village were attacked by armed hoodlums, while one of the officers was shot dead and the other critically injured,” he said.

“It was also suspected that two of the officers’ service rifles were carted away by the hoodlums.”

He said the police are making effort to trace and apprehend the suspects, while investigation into the incident is ongoing.

In the wake of the #EndSARS protests, violence had broken out in some parts of the country, with suspected hoodlums destroying both government and private properties.

Several deaths were also recorded in the mayhem including that of security agents.
