‘Hoodlums’ shoot Ekiti lawmaker

Micheal Adedeji, a member of the Ekiti state house of assembly, was shot in the head by unknown gunmen in the early hours of Friday.

Adedeji, a member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), was said to have been waylaid while traveling along Ikere-Akure road.

Segun Adewumi, deputy speaker of the house, made this known to journalists.

According to him, the lawmaker who represents Ekiti southwest constituency 2, was immediately taken to the Ekiti State University Teaching Hospital (EKSUTH), where he was admitted but was later referred to the Federal Teaching Hospital, Ido-Ekiti (FETHI) where is he is expected to undergo neurosurgery.

He said the lawmaker was shot while trying to escape the scene.

“When he was accosted on the way, the lawmaker wanted to flee the scene by putting his car on reverse gear to another direction, but these evil men opened fire on his vehicle and the bullets hit him on the head,” he said.

“He was immediately taken to hospital in Ado Ekiti where he received emergency treatment.”

This is the third attack on top politicians in the state in the last three months. In August, Bunmi Ojo, an associate of Segun Oni, a former governor of the state, was shot dead in Ado-Ekiti.

Last week, Moses Adeoye, treasurer of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state, was killed at his residence.
