‘How police shot in the air after stopping my family at a roadblock’

Chukwudi Onwunali, the talent acquisition and development lead at Co-creation Hub Nigeria (CcHUB), has narrated an encounter with the police.

Sharing his experience on Twitter, Onwunali said policemen stopped him while driving with his family at Adekunle and he was asked to turn back due to a roadblock.

It is unclear whether the described location is the Adekunle Fajuyi area of Lagos.

This is coming nine days after the #EndSARS protests which called for an end to police brutality ended in the state.

The campaign spoke out against actions of members of the now disbanded special anti-robbery squad (SARS).

Onwunali said he pleaded with the officers and after the plea, he was allowed to pass after which the officers fired gunshots into the air.

He said his daughter trembled at the sound of gunshots while his other members of his family in the car were also shocked.

“Just got stopped with my family at Adekunle and we were told to turn back because of a roadblock. One of the statements after we were allowed to pass after pleading was Shey una wan end SARS..una go see …just as we walked by they fired a couple of shots whether for fun or not,” the tweet reads.

“I went to Nigerian Navy and experienced NDA..so not shaken..but my family is and my daughter is trembling. Those bullets could’ve landed anywhere…but that’s story for the gods…I’m done with this country.”
