Asue Ighodalo, governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Edo in 2024, says he believes the judiciary will do the right thing.

Ighodalo expressed his confidence in the judicial arm of government when he spoke with reporters after gunshots disrupted the sitting of the Edo governorship election tribunal on Wednesday.

Social media videos captured a man firing a locally made gun into the air, sparking panic as lawyers, tribunal members, and attendees scrambled for safety.

The PDP and the All Progressives Congress (APC) have since trade blames over the incident.

Ighodalo said he is focused on reclaiming his mandate and working for the good of Edo people.

“I want to thank the good people of Edo state for coming out in massive numbers to vote for us on September 21 and for keeping faith through the difficulties,” he said.

“They have stayed calm in the face of intimidation and harassment, living on the strong hope that our efforts to reclaim our mandate will be successful.

“These acts of violence and harassment are deliberate distractions meant to make us take our eyes off the ball.

“There are many distractions being thrown our way, but we will not be deterred. Our goal remains ensuring that we go through this tribunal process and hopefully emerge with the mandate the people of Edo state gave my deputy Osarodion Ogie and myself.”

The PDP candidate is challenging the election victory of Monday Okpebholo who was declared winner of the September Edo state governorship poll.
