Kabiru Rurum
Kabiru Rurum, a member of the house representatives representing Rano/Kibiya constituency in Kano, says his suspension from the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) is “baseless and in contempt of court.”
Earlier on Monday, Rurum and three other NNPP federal lawmakers from Kano were suspended over alleged anti-party activities.
Hashimu Dungurawa, NNPP chairman in Kano, who announced the suspension, said the sanction followed “recent actions” that contradicted the party’s principles and objectives.
Dungurawa said the party is open to dialogue, adding that the affected lawmakers could be reinstated after a “thorough” investigation into the allegations.

Reacting to the development, Rurum told NAN that he and his other suspended colleagues belonged to a “different NNPP faction.”
The lawmaker accused the Kano NNPP leadership of disregarding legal rulings and argued that they were not legitimate party leaders.
He claimed that a court judgment had dismissed the allegations against them adding that the case is still awaiting a ruling.

The lawmaker reiterated that the suspension was baseless because his faction operated independently.
On February 5, Agbo Major was elected as the national chairman of the NNPP at a convention that took place at the Rock View Hotel in Apapa, Lagos state.
The convention was reportedly attended by delegates and officers of the party at national and state levels.
However, prominent party figures, including Abba Yusuf, governor of Kano state, and Rabiu Kwankwaso, the presidential candidate of the NNPP in the 2023 elections, were absent at the convention.

On February 8, Major said the convention provided the opportunity to ratify some of the decisions taken by the party, including the expulsion of the Kwankwassiya group.
He said the convention also ratified the expulsion of Kwankwaso and rejected the purported new logo of the party.
Ajuji Ahmed, the national chairman of the NNPP, later reacted to the convention and described it as “illegal.”
Ahmed, who aligns with Kwankwaso’s faction of the NNPP, dismissed the convention, accusing its organisers of violating court orders and making misleading claims of legitimacy.
