Gernot Rohr, Super Eagles head coach, says he drinks beer to celebrate his team’s win.

The Franco-German tactician told TheCable that he may subsequently indulge in a glass of wine, but beer comes first.

“I drink beer to celebrate each time the team win any of their matches,” Rohr told TheCable.

“I may take wine much much later but it is beer I drink for celebrating first and foremost.”

Rohr, 67, expressed optimism that the Super Eagles will qualify for the 2022 FIFA World Cup.

The three-time Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) champions will face Cape Verde, Central African Republic, and Liberia in the World Cup qualifying series.

“The World Cup qualifiers will start soon and I think we will be able to do well,” he said.

“Nigerians should expect good football again and on a good pitch, I hope. Lagos did very well but they still have to improve especially in the area of traffic.

“It’s going to be a serious World Cup qualification. The record of our results is very good and I know we were unbeaten in all our away games (during the AFCON qualifiers) which is wonderful and very nice.

“We have to continue because we want to always be the best but at the same time you can’t win all your matches.”

The Eagles won four matches and drew two en route to qualifying for AFCON.
