‘I feel justified’ — Abba Yusuf speaks on s’court victory

Abba Yusuf has commended the supreme court ruling that certified him as the governor of Kano state.

On Friday, a five-member panel of the supreme court held that the tribunal and the court of appeal erred by sacking Yusuf, candidate of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP), as governor of the state.

In September 2023, the Kano governorship election petition tribunal sacked Yusuf as governor of the state and declared Yusuf Gawuna of the All Progressives Congress (APC) as the winner of the state governorship election.

Displeased with the verdict, the NNPP and its candidate challenged the judgment at the appellate court.

Speaking after the court delivered the judgement, Yusuf said he is “extremely happy”, adding that the court confirmed that there was no illegality during the March 2023 election in the state.

“I feel extremely happy, as you can see, so many people are happy and cheering. So, I feel happy,” Yusuf said.

“I feel extremely happy with the judgment of the Supreme Court that took place today, January 12, 2024.

“The supreme court has confirmed that there was no illegality as far as the election is concerned.

“They were saying illegal ballot papers. INEC had confirmed that the ballot papers belonged to them; they were issued by them and the supreme court justices have just confirmed that also, that there was no illegality and the people are aware.

“I feel justified, I feel that, that issue has been set aside because there was no justifications whatsoever.”

Yusuf thanked the people of Kano and Nigerians for their support

“My good people, the first thing is to say a big thank you to everybody for all the support, the prayers they have been rendering for the last seven months of my administration,” he said.

“Not only Kano State people but the entire good people of Nigeria as well as other good people across the globe. So, I just want to say a big thank you to everybody.”
