Miriam Onuoha, a member of the house of representatives, says she’s seeking to succeed Femi Gbajabiamila as speaker.

Miriam, a member of the All Progressives Congress (APC), spoke on Wednesday in an interview with NAN in Abuja.

The lawmaker said her target is the speaker position and that she is “qualified” to hold the number four position in the country.

”To be a principal officer is no longer a new thing in the house of reps currently in the 9th assembly, the deputy chief whip is rep Nkiruka Onyejiocha and that position has not given her the necessary leverage to act for the women as she would want,” she said.

”I do not aspire to be in that category of principal officers because that is not a presiding office.

“I am running to be a presiding officer of the 10th House of Reps Speaker because I know that I am qualified and have the experience to transform the national assembly.

“The attribute of a woman is inclusiveness. A woman breathes life and a woman nurtures. At this time in our political history.”

The laawmaker, who represents Okigwe north federal constituency of Imo state, is the chairperson of the house committee on disability.

Onuoha is the sole female lawmaker seeking to be the speaker of the 10th assembly.

Last week when she declared her intention to vie for the speakership position, she asked the male lawmakers in the race to step down for her.
