ICPC: Corruption has brought Nigeria to its knees… citizens must fight it

The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) says corruption has crippled Nigeria.

Ekere Usiere, ICPC’s resident anti-corruption commissioner, spoke on Thursday in Yenagoa, Bayelsa state, at the commemoration of Anti-Corruption Day.

The event was organised by the anti-corruption and transparency unit of the Nigerian Content Development and Monitoring Board (NCDMB).

According to Daily Trust, Usiere said Nigerians must unite against corruption as failure to do so could destroy the country.

She said whistleblowing is critical to the fight against corruption, and urged Nigerians to overcome fear and adopt a courageous mindset to expose malpractices.

“There is no gainsaying that the scourge of corruption has brought Nigeria to its knees, from economic underdevelopment to socio-political decadence,” she said.

“If we don’t kill corruption, corruption will definitely kill Nigeria.

“Citizens need to overcome cultural, psychological, and systemic challenges to blow the whistle against corruption.

“If you see something, you must say something. If you hear something, you must say something.”
