Governors elected on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC) have asked the caretaker committee led by Mai Mala Buni, Yobe governor, to organise an elective national convention.
By holding an elective convention, the ruling party will be able to elect members of the national working committee (NWC).
The previous NWC led by Adams Oshiomhole, former national chairman of the APC, was dissolved by the party’s national executive committee (NEC) in June 2020 after a protracted leadership crisis.
Ever since, the Buni-led committee has been piloting the affairs of the APC.

In a communique issued on Tuesday, Abubakar Bagudu, chairman of APC governors forum, commended the efforts of the caretaker committee to reposition the party.
The Kebbi governor also commended the panel for conducting successful ward congresses across the country.
“Forum reviewed progress being made by the APC Caretaker and Extraordinary Convention Planning Committee in the effort to rebuild structures of the party at all levels and commends members of the Caretaker Committee led by His Excellency, Mai Mala Buni for the successful conduct of the Ward Congresses across the country,” Bagudu said.
