Some students of the Federal University Dutsin-Ma (FUDMA) in Katsina state, have taken to the streets to stage a protest following the death of their colleague.

The demonstration, which turned chaotic, saw the students barricading the busy Dutsin-Ma–Katsina highway on Friday, burning tyres, and obstructing vehicular movement.

The students are protesting the death of Sa’id Abdulkadir, a 400-level student of agriculture allegedly shot by local vigilantes in Dutsin-Ma town.

The circumstances surrounding Abdulkadir’s death remain unclear, with conflicting reports emerging from various sources.

Some reports said Abdulkadir was suspected of being an informant for bandits.

There are also reports that he was mistakenly shot by security operatives while riding on a commercial motorcycle.

Sources said security personnel attempted to stop the motorcycle carrying Abdulkadir and another rider, but they refused.

In response, the operatives allegedly opened fire, killing Abdulkadir instantly, while the commercial motorcyclist sustained injuries.

The injured rider was rushed to a nearby hospital for medical treatment.

In reaction to the incident, the students took to the streets, demanding justice for their colleague.

However, security personnel, including soldiers and police officers, were deployed to restore order.
