For the 14th consecutive day, Nigeria recorded over 1,000 coronavirus infections with 1,444 cases confirmed on Sunday.
The new figure announced by the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) for January 17, 2021, brought the country’s total number of confirmed cases to 110,387.
The new infections were recorded in 20 states and the federal capital territory (FCT).
Lagos, the epicentre of the pandemic, again recorded the highest daily infections with 901 cases, followed by Plateau state with 136 positive samples.

However, the daily record of recoveries increased significantly on Sunday, as 3,950 persons were reported to have been discharged.
NCDC noted that 2,825 recoveries out of 3,950 discharged patients are a backlog of community recoveries recorded in the FCT.
Meanwhile, 15 persons were reported to have died of COVID-19 complications on Sunday, increasing the current death toll to 1,435.
