The convoy of Rochas Okorocha, former governor of Imo, was attacked by gunmen on Friday while travelling from Enugu to his state.
Speaking with journalists shortly after the incident, Okorocha said he was on his way to attend the burial of Dorothy Ihedioha, the mother of Emeka Ihedioha, former governor of Imo state.
The burial event was held at St. Peters Anglican Church, Mbutu, Aboh Mbaise.
Okorocha said the security convoy that was attacked was assigned to him by Peter Mba, the governor of Enugu, when he visited the state.

“I am angry. I am angry because I spent two days in Enugu and nothing happened to me but it is in my own state that the convoy that was released to me by the governor of Enugu state to attend the burial ceremony of Ihedioha’s mother at Mbaise that was attacked and one policeman killed,” he said.
“What is happening in Imo state makes me angry. Many people who are running to govern Imo state are not capable but I have seen one man who the cap fits. When it’s time I will speak.”
Corroborating the incident, Okoye Henry, the spokesperson of the police command in Imo, said officers have been dispatched to start an investigation on the matter.

“We have strategically sent out our men to get to the root of the matter. We have positioned them in Mbaise where the incident happened and we will ensure that the perpetrators are arrested and made to face the law,” he told TheCable.
